Novel Submissions

For the first time, we are opening our submissions inbox to novels - and we are so excited to meet you and your words!

We are delighted to be welcoming writers to have a chance to become Crowvus authors by submitting their work to us between Tuesday 9th January and Thursday 28th March. We are a small indie publisher based in the north of Scotland and - if you've just landed on this page - we strongly suggest you have a browse around our website to find out if we're a good fit for you. Your book deserves nothing less!

We do not have any preconcieved ideas about what we are looking for during this submission window, however we want to read your most polished writing, so please make sure you are submitting your best work. Formatting is not a gamechanger for us, but we suggest you do not use script fonts. There should be no pictures/illustrations in your submission. Your book should be at least 30,000 words long. There's no upper limit, but anything over 120,000 words will be a hard sell.

So, here's how it works...

Please send us 900-1,100 words from the beginning of your novel as well as 900-1,100 words from your favourite section. These should be in the same document, along with a 500-1,000 word synopsis. Your synopsis must link together the two excerpts, and contain all the crucial parts of the story, including the ending. [Not sure how to write a synopsis? Check here!]

This document must be either .docx or .pdf

Your covering letter should include the following:

  1. Your name and pronouns

  2. Your address

  3. Your preferred email address if it is different to the one from which you are submitting your book

  4. The title of your book

  5. The approximate word count of your book

  6. Your target audience and genre (eg. Middle Grade: Fantasy)

  7. Which of our books (you can choose as many as you like!) makes you think we are a good fit for your story, and why [this doesn't have to be genre specific - think: themes and characters!]

  8. Any other writing-related achievements, or whether you're a debut author

All these bits and pieces should be submitted to submissions@crowvus.com This is an unmanned inbox, but we will respond to all submissions no later than Thursday 27th June. We welcome simultaneous submissions but please let us know if you have your novel accepted elsewhere. Any submissions which do not adhere to the above criteria will be automatically rejected.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch through our Contact Form. We'll keep this page updated with any FAQs and look forward to discovering your writing!
