Book Week Scotland 2016

For Day 2 of Book Week Scotland we have a poem from another of our authors.

It's a difficult task to follow the beautiful observational writing of Burning Barbara's Boats, but we think this thought-provoking, pensive poem does it perfectly.

Questions in the Darkness
(a poem found in my bedside table several months after I wrote it)

How do whispers sound

in an empty room?

How does a breath sound

in a long-forgotten tomb?

How does the sun reach

through the leafy trees?

How do doors unlock

when nobody holds the keys?

How do children find

worlds beyond our reach?

How do snowflakes rest

on an ocean-covered beach?

How do I go back

to what used to be?

How do unseen chains

prevent us from being free?
